Hi! I'm Zenon.

I am a Realism and Abstract artist living with my Family in Adelaide, South Australia. I paint realistic and abstract paintings and find it a joyful, peaceful escape where I get to create something beautiful.

My favourite moments are when I finish my paintings, frame them and deliver them to their  forever homes. Seeing the positive effect my paintings have on the people who purchase them, and to see them come to life in their final resting place gives me great joy. Each painting is unique, with the true purpose and meaning given context, dimension and visual impact to the chosen space. I see my art coming to life and doing its job. It’s this final moment where the art-work comes to its place where I feel most happy.

Each painting that I paint is created through a process of layering paint and experimenting with composition, mark-making and the colour palette. I always seek to express an ephemeral sense of balance, depth and luminosity - my art is often moody and sensorial and imbued with ideas of transience and renewal. Essentially, I create emotive works with broad interpretive scope that invite people to reflect and enrich their everyday lives.

ZENON KAROLCZUK

ABOUT ME.

I was born in Gorzow Wielkopolski/Poland where I studied chemistry and art till 1981. After this , I migrated to West Germany where I lived and worked till 1986 in Braunlage/Harz. During this time I have many exhibitions and painted many  portraits and murals, one of which was 40 meters long by 4 meters high! I also had many positive articles in newspapers written about my work, and being prosperous and very well known and sold artist. In 1986 I emigrate to Adelaide/South Australia where I’m living till today.

ARTIST STATEMENT

Fine art has been my passion since I was young. It gives me great plessure to paint and I am often inspired by life and nature. I love many artistic styles, but realism is my favourite. As a realism artist, my approach to a subject ma is to portray it as it really appears in life. However, I do admire other art styles, such as impressionism and abstract art. For example, Vincent Van Gogh and Leon Wyczolkowski are among my favourite artists whose work reflect those styles. Others whom I admire,  include polish great-all time historic painter Jan Matejko, Jacek Malczewski, Jozef Chelmonski and Henryk Gorecki  - for his realism in art.

I love the challenge of painting a variety of subjects( Landscapes, seascapes, still life, etc. Whatever inspires me at the moment. This accounts for the various categories of paintings found on this website. However, I think my favourite would have to be landscape and flowers since I do more of them any other genre here in Australia. I draw my inspiration from personal memories, photos taken on my travels, and photos taken by other talented photographers that I admire.

To these, I add my Imagination,My art flows from there. I often take a messy, free flowing approach to my art. Even when starting with a subject or idea in mind, I freely deviate from the plan. I love the unexpected surprises and naturalness that come from a relaxed style o painting. My paintings use an abundance of paint - I can’t have too much paint on the canvas. Thick, buttery paint layered on with a palette knife gives it that extra dimension.

People often like to touch my art, and I love that. Colourful Australian Landscapes with a dash of pink and highly textured still life and floral garden paintings are a great love of mine, but I am always trying new things which helps my style to keep evolving. You can find my artworks in private collections in Poland, Russia, Germany, Swisse, England, USA and of course Australia.

The definitions of my style

Realism: Is a style of art regarded by most as REAL ART. This is because it at-tempts to portray the subject as it actually appears in real life but stops short of appearing like a photograph. Realism art is without stylisation or following the rules of formal artistic theory.

Abstract: Is art that doesn’t resemble anything from “real life.” Its an art style that is intentionally non-representational and seeks to achieve its point or subject using shapes, forms, colours and textures. Every object on the canvas is represented by either colours or shapes.

My favourite mediums

Oil Paint: this is a slow drying medium which is made from colour pigments suspended in oil. Due to its long drying time, artists can take their time producing work. Oil paint is often used to create wonderful textured effects thanks to its thick consistency.

Acrylic Paint: this water-soluble paint dries quickly, is non toxic and cost effective, often making it a go to choice for painters of all skill and levels. Over time it holds up better than oil paint, as its not prone to cracking or yellowing, there are innumerable acrylic paint techniques and by combining the paint with with different mediums, artists have flexibility in the final look.
